Between 2014 to 2016, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has received proposals for as many 20 airports across the country. Out of this it has in-principle approval to three while preliminary clearance (site clearance) has been given to two projects.
In a written reply submitted in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha informed the house that GoI has granted ‘in-principle’ approval to the projects at Bhogapuram, Tadepalligudem and Oravakallu in Andhra Pradesh. In addition, ‘site clearance’ approval has been given to Government of Rajasthan for setting up of airport at Bhiwadi and Government of Telangana for setting up of airport at Kothagudem. Some of the other projects waiting for the nod from the union government include Ankleshwar in Gujarat, Kuppam (Chittoor) in Andhra Pradesh, Chingleput near Chennai, Gwalior and Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh, Hisar in Haryana, Kothagudem (Khammam) in Telangana, Noida International Airport near Jewar, etc.
