In order to reduce the price gap between producers and consumers through reduction in intermediation of supply chain, 14 States have so far deregulated fruits and vegetables from APMC Acts, though in different models. According to a government release, the states which have set afoot decisive measures to this effect in the recent past are: Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Karnataka, Assam, Himachal, Haryana, Delhi, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Odisha, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, Gujarat and Maharastra.
Some of them have gone to the extent of full exemption. For instance, Nagaland has exempted collection of market fee on all horticultural commodities. Karnataka has provisioned for no market fee leviable on flowers, fruits and vegetables while Himachal Pradesh has exempted mandi fee on all fruits and vegetables except Apple.
