Global e-commerce major Alibaba is likely to set up a major regional distribution hub in Malaysia. According to a news agency report, the move is meant to efficiently cater to the fast-growing business in the region.
The hub is expected to come up within KLIA Aeropolis, a staggering 24,700-acre development led by airport operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB). The site is expected to garner an investment inflow of over $1.5 billion by domestic and foreign companies. An announcement pertaining to Alibaba’s intention of setting up a major global distribution base at this site is expected soon. “Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has existing facility for Alibaba Group to pilot their distribution services here, and if (Alibaba) decide to expand in the future, there is the option to build more on other (undeveloped) sites in KLIA Aeropolis,” a source in the know of things has been quoted in the story.
