Operating surplus of major ports on a rise

The ministry of Shipping recently submitted the financial status of the major ports in the country and among other things, the submission strongly highlight the rise in operating surplus for the last three years. As per the submission, the operating surplus of Kolkata port rose to 781 crore in 17-18 as against 463 crore in 15-16. JNPT’s operating surplus has crossed Rs 1100 crore mark (Rs 1139 crore to be precise) rising sharply from the previous year’s figure of less than Rs 900 crore.

On a cumulative basis, the operating surplus of the major ports in the three year period has grown sharply by over 30 percent – Rs 5895 crore in 17-18 as against Rs 4296 crore in 15-16.
