Logistics Data Bank (LDB), a project run a by the joint venture entity formed by Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and Japanese IT company NEC Corporation, has been implemented at Kolkata Port. A formal announcement was made the Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) last Saturday.
Logistics Data Bank service entails real time tracking of the containers with the use of Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The project was unveiled in 2016 to make port related processes more efficient in the country and currently covers nearly half a dozen ports in the country. The real time tracking of containers is believed to be a major technological intervention helping the customers to plan the other legs of container movement process more efficiently with time and cost reduction benefits.
