Reliance can be India’s answer to Alibaba, Amazon

According to a recent report by global financial firm UBS, Reliance Industries has the wherewithal to emerge as a consumer gaint like Amazon or Alibaba. The agency has unveiled a 100-pager report which strongly underlines that the company is heading in the direction of becoming market leader in telecom and media and will also gain a significant share in retail and e-commerce businesses.

“Its success could be built on an ecosystem or bundling strategy, and a home-court advantage, similar to Alibaba’s success in China, beyond explicit or implicit policy support,” UBS said in its report. “Our assessment of the capital framework, regulations, business positioning and emerging trends in each of its consumer-facing business indicates RIL can lead in telecom & media and gain significant share in retail/e-commerce,” the report added.
