Dubai-headquartered Phoniex group, a leading player in global rice and commodities trade and distribution, and Delhi-based Harshna Group known for cold chain solutions, have forged a partnership to create advanced back-end agri infrastructure in the country which would also include Kashmir where both partners have a presence.
Harshna group has the largest cold chain capacity in Kashmir’s Pulwama district (amounting 30,000 metric tonnes) primarily dealing with around 10,000 local apple growers. The company which has been active in the state since 2008 has also helped farmers to shift to high-density apple orchard farming which it claims has substantially increased their earning.
“As part of the deal, while Phoneix group would be investing between Rs 1,200-1,500 crore over the next five years, we will be taking care of the marketing and distribution at a pan-India level. The idea is to create advanced distribution structure – from farmgate to the last retailer. A substantial part of our joint activities will be focused on Kashmir,” Rakesh Kohli, MD, Harshna Group of companies told indoasiancommodities in a recent conversation.
