Despite protests by the associations representing domestic small traders and not so enthusiastic response from senior government functionaries, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos concluded his three-day visit to India last week making promises to further scale up global e-conmmerce giant’s operations in India. Bezos has promised a further $1 billion investment in India to help small businesses digitize in India. The company also claimed that its expanded operations will create one million jobs by 2025. This would be in addition to over half a million jobs which the company has created in the last six years.
In a press statement, the company said it will continue to invest in technology, infrastructure, and its logistics network. “ The jobs–created both directly and indirectly–will be across industries, including information technology, skill development, content creation, retail, logistics, and manufacturing,” the release maintained.
